Companies and company directors are increasingly being put under the worldwide spotlight, in respect of their attention and considerations (or lack thereof) towards environmental and climate issues. Whilst the attention is currently being drawn upon the larger corporate bodies, it is unlikely to take long before the lens is cast over smaller organisations.

Companies in other jurisdictions, particularly the US, are being faced with environmental and climate change-related litigation which, whilst not yet seen in the UK courts, may begin to appear, given the growing attention of the public towards such matters.

In light of the growing concerns, directors must ensure that they consistently factor environmental considerations into their decision-making at board level, and remain up-to-date with the latest regulations and guidance applicable to them.
