The government will help to insulate businesses against the impact of coronavirus, it was announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer today. Small employers with less than 250 employees will be reimbursed for the statutory sick pay (SSP) they pay to employees, for the first 14 days of sickness.

Self-employed workers who are not eligible for sick pay will be able to claim contributory Employment Support Allowance ('ESA'). The ESA benefit will be available from day one, not after a week, as it currently is.

If you are unsure of which staff are eligible for SSP, the employment team at Lodders can advise you.
