A practical approach to completion and ID during the current pandemic has today been announced by the Land Registry. This will allow parties to avoid some of the physical issues caused by the need to return original documents to solicitors for completion. The Registry has also eased some of the restrictions on ID verification.
This is a welcome recognition of current practical difficulties, however, documents will still need to be physically signed and witnessed where appropriate, following social distancing procedures.
This welcome step is a pragmatic response which should ease the process for all.
From Monday 4 May, we have introduced temporary changes when verifying a person’s identity and for signing deeds. In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak HM Land Registry is regularly reviewing its practice, policy and procedures, taking guidance from customer feedback.
