A new online service has been launched by the Office of the Public Guardian today, 17 July 2020.
The 'Use a lasting power of attorney' tool will replace the current paper-based system that attorneys have to deal with. Instead of sending out photocopied and certified LPA documents, attorneys can now provide a secure code. When submitted to the online portal, banks and other institutions will get confirmation that the attorney is able to act.
This system currently only applies to LPAs registered from today, but the Office of the Public Guardian is working on extending this system to LPAs that have already been registered.
The new digital ‘Use a lasting power of attorney’ tool will help those acting as an attorney to contact organisations like banks and healthcare providers more easily.
