For far too long the restrictions that have been in place have ensured that premises need to be approved in order for a legal wedding or civil partnership ceremony to take place – often referred to as ‘an approved room or permanent structure’. On 30th June 2021 a statutory instrument was laid to amend the regulations, with changes taking effect on 1st July 2021.

It will now allow legal outdoor civil weddings and civil partnership registrations, and further reform is still being considered by the government.
